Burkina Faso is a small West African country with big musical traditions. First among these are the electrifying rhythms of the balafon, a traditional West African xylophone. Each of the many ethnicities may have its own style with its own tunings and melodies, but those of the Sambla ethnicity of the southwest are unparalleled in their richness and complexity.

Come discover the beats firsthand in this concert by award winning xylophonists Mamadou Diabaté and Seydou Diabaté, brothers in the venerable Sambla xylophone lineage, who seamlessly blend traditional rhythms with beat-driven contemporary compositions. Accompanying them is flutist Dramane Dembelé. His captivating melodies literally sing, speaking the language of the Fulani herders, engaging the musicians and the audience in a multilingual dialogue.
