The Fully Celebrated Orchestra has been a force on the Boston music scene since saxophonist/composer Jim Hobbs and bassist Timo Shanko started playing free jazz at punk rock clubs and street corners in the late 1980s. Still going strong as underground legends over three decades later, FCO also features cornetist (and Coast director) Taylor Ho Bynum, drummer Luther Gray, and guitarist Ian Ayers. Their latest album, Sob Story on Relative Pitch Records, will be released in February ’24.

The CherryAhCole Combo is an exploratory offshoot of the Coast Jazz Orchestra named after three pioneers of Black Creative Music who taught at Dartmouth: Don Cherry, Brother Ah, and Bill Cole. For this performance, featuring Juniper Kim (’20, violin), Katie McCabe (’21, violin), Charles Peoples III (‘GR24, voice), Mac Waters (‘GR24, viola), Albert Zhang (‘GR25, keyboards), Daniel Lin (’23, cello), Eli Hecht (’23, bass) and special guests Luther Gray and Ian Ayers, the band will deconstruct music by Bjork and Prince.
