Discographies of women's music and why we do them: I began the discography of classical and experimental music by women as an "answer" to all my colleagues (and not just the male ones!) who use as an excuse for the lack of diversity in the music classroom, "Well, I WOULD teach women's (African-American's, Asian's..) music if it were available but there are no scores or recordings. This is, of course, patently untrue and unfortunately illustrates the fact that many times "old dogs are not willing to learn new tricks." It is much easier to teach music history the way you have for the past 30 years than to actually REVISE the course in any way!

All the discographies on the IAWM page are done for this reason, and some are very specific and very helpful to performers and teachers. For example, trombonists can go to the trombone literature bibliography/ use in repertoire classes.

My discography is about 6 months old now and probably won't be revised again until March 1997 (target date). However, it is very extensive already and will contain all recordings released prior to March 1996.
