The Masters programme in Composition at Goldsmiths provides pathways in either acoustic or studio-based composition, both leading to a University of London MMus. All MMus composition students attend joint seminars in areas that reflect the Department's ongoing commitment to both twentieth-century music and cultural studies Students taking the Acoustic pathway courses that explore aspects of notation, improvisation and analysis in sessions shared with performers and musicologists. Students on the Studio pathway explore aspects of cultural theory and and contemporary music and take specialist options in composing for tape, live electronics and the aesthetics of computer music and sound-art.
PERFORMANCES AND RESOURCES
Each year the Department supports two Composers Forum Concerts, two composition competitions, performances by the Contemporary Music Ensemble and Goldsmiths Sinfonia
The Electronic Music Studios at Goldsmiths currently include five Macintosh-based studios, two reserved for postgraduate and specialist use, a Yamaha Disklavier grand piano, a recording space with a Macintosh workstation, and a computer room for general music use. Specialist resources and software include Protools, Max, Hyperprism and IRCAM software. The facility is constantly developing in response to student need. Informal visits are welcome.

ART & TECHNOLOGY
New International Master's Program in Goteborg, Sweden
This year we start a new two-year international master's program at the IT-University of Goteborg, Sweden, in collaboration with Innovative Design at Chalmers University of Technology and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Goteborg University. It's called Art & Technology and is intended for people with technical/scientific and/or artistic background, any genre, any nationality - opening up for interesting collaborations.
There will be courses in applied mathematics and programming, generative and processing techniques for text/image/sound, robotics, sensor technologies, virtual societies, social implications, with international guest-lecturers and cross-disciplinary workshops, projects and seminars.

The HND in Sound and Music Design Technologies is a two year full
time course for students with some experience in sound, music, music
technology or media production who do not want a traditional music or
music technology course but who want to:
* Develop their own work and build a portfolio that will reflect
their special interest, to help them seek work on completion of the
course.
* Learn applied practical skills through developing their creative
skills using a variety of industry standard sound and music
technology equipment with an emphasis on Mac based digital audio
applications.
* Learn and develop the skills needed for creative sound design for a
variety of applications including time based and electronic media and
live performance including film, video, radio, CD Rom, web design,
computer games, theatre, dance and sonic art.
* Develop their work against a strong contextual background of
contemporary thought about sonic art and creative sound in
collaboration with other media and disciplines.
* Gain a strong background in enterprise management and the sound
industries.
* Study in a media school where there is a long tradition of courses
in film, video, multimedia and radio production.

Chalmers University of Technology and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Goteborg University, both in Sweden, will be starting an International Master's Program in Art & Technology.
This collaborative program is intended both for students with a scientific or technical background who would like to explore artistic ways of expression and get an in-depth knowledge of computer graphics and sound technologies, and for artists from different genres who want to learn how to use the computer as the powerful tool. The Media Centre d´Art i Disseny of the School of Superior Design in Barcelona has launched a Masters and a Post-graduate Diploma in Audio Visual Creation and Communication for Interactive Media. These courses focus on creation, communication and development of content within digital environments.

The School of Live Performance, Film & TV have a small number of places left in two courses for this semester. Certificate II in Arts - Learners will receive training in both practical and business modules and will have the opportunity to participate in project work and develop skills through case studies, industry forums, viewing live work and exhibitions, as well as hands on experience in a diversity of approaches which can be used to create New Media performance. The course is proposed to attract directors, musicians, writers, digital artists, filmmakers and designers who wish to specialise in collaborative projects, with an emphasis on performance. Certificat 4 In Screen (Film & TV) - On completion of the course learners will be able to identify various production techniques used across a number of film and video genres and evaluate the effectiveness of those techniques against their intended purpose; operate, install and maintain camera, sound, editing and lighting equipment; use computer technologies; detail and apply legal requirements to a specific production environment; delineate the elements of design and be able to apply the production work; describe and apply production management processes; operate a small business; identify and perform production activities within the Workplace Health and Safety requirements and perform specific production duties within a team context to produce a variety of film/video productions within the context of the film and video industry.
