Singing Gabriele d'Annunzio: a Lecture Recital

Controversial Italian poet Gabriele d'Annunzio (1863-1938) lived a salacious and extravagant life.  His poetry is sensual, provocative, and evokes powerful images. Not surprisingly, his work was highly sought after as the basis for art song compositions, and has been set to music by a number of notable Italian composers. In this lecture recital, mezzo-soprano Felicia Gavilanes (Dartmouth '05) and pianist Filippo Ciabatti (Music Director, Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra) explore the life and poetry of Gabriele d'Annunzio through song settings of his poetry by Italian composers Pier Paolo Tosti, Ottorino Respighi, Ildebrando Pizzetti, and Giacomo Orefice.

Free and open to the public.
