The Music Department’s Music Now! concert series kicks off the 2026-2027 season on Tuesday, Oct. 6 with a performance of North Indian classical music (raga) featuring acclaimed bansuri flute maestro Rupak Kulkarni and tabla virtuoso Amit Kavthekar.
Rupak Kulkarni, a disciple of legendary bansuri flute master Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, traces his musical lineage to Allaudin Khan, the guru of famed sitar player Ravi Shankar and sarod player Ali Akbar Khan. Amit Kavthekar studied tabla from an early age with renowned tabla masters Alla Rakha and Zakir Hussain, and is active in jazz and fusion music alongside his performances with leading exponents of Hindustani classical music.
