Applications due: December 1, 2022
Position start date: September 11, 2023
The Music Department at Dartmouth College is seeking a classical guitar instructor to offer private lessons beginning in Fall 2023. We seek applications from artist-teachers who are comfortable in performance and pedagogy in classical guitar. Candidates with experience and interest in other styles, in addition to classical, are welcomed. This is a private lesson teaching position. Please ensure your supporting materials address teaching philosophy, experience, and versatility.
We expect the chosen candidate to begin teaching in person and on campus at the start of the Fall 2023 term (the first day of Fall classes is Monday, September 11, 2023). Teaching load may vary depending on student interest, but the instructor can expect to teach a minimum of five and a maximum of eight students per term in 45-minute weekly lessons, 8 weeks per term during Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. The contract begins with five students, with the possibility of expanding in future terms. Student ability level may range from beginner to advanced. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
This will begin as a one-year position. The position can be renewed for subsequent one-year or three-year contracts upon the recommendation of the Music Department faculty. Opportunities for promotion to Senior Lecturer typically become available at Dartmouth after six years of teaching.
The Music Department at Dartmouth College aims to foster a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who can work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and first- generation college students.
The search committee will hold in-person interviews and teaching demos for finalists in late February or early March of 2023. We will be transparent, prompt, and respectful in our communications with all candidates at all stages of the search. Thank you for your interest in this position.
Sincerely,
