My Dartmouth music degree has played an outsize role in my post-graduation life. At Dartmouth, I did an honors thesis in composition and conducting, where I wrote a piece and conducted its premiere with a student ensemble that I put together. That experienced was my foot in the door to conducting the Columbia Wind Ensemble in New York City, which I began only a year after my graduation and continued for 11 years. I've stuck with wind bands ever since, and I am now on the faculty at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, where I teach Wind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, and many different academic classes in music and music education. Dartmouth started me on this path, and allowed me to develop all of the tools that I still use to teach, study, organize, and think about bands.
