Prof. Steve Swayne, the Jacob H. Strauss 1922 Professor of Music at Dartmouth, has been appointed as this year's Kluge Chair in Modern Culture by the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress. Prof. Swayne will spend Spring 2022 in residence at the Library of Congress, free to pursue his own research on "modern arts and media and their impact on societal development, using the Library's immense music, film, architecture, literature, multi-media, and folklore collections," the Kluge Center says. In assuming this chairship, Prof. Swayne becomes the latest in a distinguished roster of "scholars of great accomplishment chosen for their intellectual and communicative abilities."
For Prof. Swayne, this appointment comes after a dazzling series of other recent accomplishments: In addition to his professorship at Dartmouth, Swayne is the current President of the American Musicological Society, Director of the Montgomery Fellows Program, and recipient of a competitive Senior Faculty Fellowship.
More information about the Kluge Chair can be found on the Library of Congress website.
