Hafiz Shabazz Receives Dean's Teaching Award

Adjunct Associate Professor Hafiz Shabazz received the 2024 Dean of Faculty Teaching Award. The annual award honors a non-tenure-line faculty member in recognition of outstanding contributions to Dartmouth and career distinction.

Prof. Shabazz, an ethnomusicologist, percussionist, and expert on African and Latin American musical traditions as well as jazz, has taught at Dartmouth since 1984. He designed and developed MUS 51: Oral Tradition Musicianship, a course which he has taught continuously since joining the music department. Prof. Shabazz, who was also the longtime director of the World Music Percussion Ensemble at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, will be presented with the award at a reception in October.
