Tone Forest, Senior Lecturer Jason Ennis's jazz trio with pianist Miro Sprague and bassist Marty Jaffe, released its self-titled debut album Friday. The six-track album, which features Ennis on seven-string classical guitar and archtop guitar, includes the tracks "A Wave Away," composed by Ennis in 2013, and "Pendulum," co-written by Ennis and his two bandmates.
Tone Forest is the debut recording from the trio, which formed in 2018 and performed at Dartmouth most recently in July 2022. The band's name is an homage to the forests of western Massachusetts. The press release quotes Jaffe:
We seek to emulate this level of symbiotic partnership found throughout forest ecosystems with our sensitive interplay and simpatico communication as a trio. The forest is our common home, our common experience, and it's also the inspiration behind the music. Its allure, wisdom, and healing qualities have provided us with a unifying concept for the band.
The album, released on the label Outside In Music, is available for streaming and download on all major platforms.
