Yesterday's edition of AirTalk on Los Angeles public radio (LAist 89.3) featured Assistant Professor Allie Martin and Howard University professor Tia Tyree in an ask-the-experts discussion of the ongoing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. In the segment, Martin and Tyree break down the beef, its place in hip-hop history, and its wide-ranging effects on the industry and culture.
Martin is an ethnomusicologist and sound studies expert whose research explores the relationships between race, sound, and gentrification. At Dartmouth, she teaches courses on hip-hop, Black popular music, and Black sound studies. Tyree is a media studies scholar whose interests include hip-hop, rap, television, film, and social media.
