New Yorker's Year-End Music Review Features Profs. Beaudoin and Fure

Two Music Department faculty members and their compositions wowed music critic Alex Ross in 2021. Ross's year-end New Yorker review of the most impressive performances and recordings of 2021 featured works by Assistant Professor Richard Beaudoin and Associate Professor Ash Fure. November's production of Professor Fure's sound art performance installation HIVE RISE at the Geffen Contemporary made the performances shortlist (a "sensuously obliterating soundscape," says Ross), while April's release of flutist Claire Chase's 4-CD set Density 2036, which includes a performance of Professor Beaudoin's Another Woman of Another Kind, ranked among the year's best recordings. Professor Beaudoin's 2016 composition for flute and eight voices can be found on the third disc of the set (Density 2036: part iv) in a stunning performance by Chase and vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth.
