Sylvie Benson '25, a singer-songwriter and music (modified with English) major from northern California, announced the start of the winter term with releases of her debut singles "The Doe" and "LET ME OUT!" The tracks, one an acoustic folk-pop meditation, the other a synth-pop dancefloor romp, represent the culmination of an academic year's worth of independent work and music community collaboration. In the music department, Benson, who performs as sylvie (stylized all lowercase), is a double student of the Individual Instruction Program, taking voice lessons from Louis Burkot and guitar from Jason Ennis. After completing MUS 28 (Sonic Space and Form) with Senior Lecturer Sunny Nam in winter 2023, Benson embarked on a music production internship at the Creation Lab in Modesto, Calif., where she wrote and recorded both of the newly released songs. Over the summer, she began to collaborate with fellow music major and producer Raegan Padula '24, who mixed and produced the tracks.
Benson continues to work with mentor Nam, who mastered the new songs, and classmate Padula on an upcoming EP and is gearing up for a concert tour of the Pacific Northwest with Padula this summer.
